Ever since I was a little girl, I had a strange yearning to know this character called God, although my mother’s a Buddhist and my father was an atheist. Throughout my life, I learned through various denominations of Christian religions about God. However, there were things that didn’t sit right in my heart about some of the teachings. I then came across some spiritual books written by Neale Donald Walsch, a modern spiritual messenger. The “Conversations with God” series finally provided clarification. I’ve come to the conclusion that there are some truths in the bible; however, some stories have been manipulated by mankind, whether they were exaggerated, diluted, misinterpreted, lost in translation, or even removed from the bible by the church. I believe that people should truly believe in an almighty God, which means acknowledging that God is way better than what the bible portrays Him to be. Otherwise, people should acknowledge that they believe in a lesser god, and stop trying to convince the rest of the world to believe that the God represented solely by the bible is the almighty God, since there are clearly contradictions that prove otherwise.
For instance, there are those who claim that God is almighty and all loving, but then assigns Him with negative, human characteristics (throughout the bible) such as: needy, failing, angry, jealous, afraid, judgmental, punishing, discriminating, vengeful and condemning. Those who truly believe that God is almighty and all loving knows in their hearts that he is without needs, never fails, and is above being angry, jealous or afraid. If God is judgmental, punishing, discriminating, vengeful and condemning, he would be a hypocrite to his own teachings about unconditional love, forgiveness, and not judging others. Who then, in their right mind, would want to worship such a god? Neale Donald Walsch reveals the true nature of God, that He is indeed almighty and all loving. The following is one of the examples of the differences between the teachings of the bible and a modern spiritual messenger:
In the Book of Job, God uses Job to prove to Satan that a man can have faith in God’s justice even after intense suffering. First of all, an almighty God should have no need to prove anything to anyone, especially to his creation who had apparently turned against Him. Satan is no match for an almighty God. If God desires that all His children return to Him, then He will not fail in doing so. Secondly, an almighty God should have no need or desire to make anyone suffer, mentally and/or physically, just to prove a point, especially if it isn’t necessary. Walsch brings clarity to this type of belief through his “Conversation with God” book,
“Deity has no needs. All That Is, is exactly that: all that is. It therefore wants, or lacks, nothing—by definition. If you choose to believe in a God who somehow needs something—and has such hurt feelings if He doesn’t get it that He punishes those from who He expected to receive it—then you choose to believe in a God much smaller than I. You truly are Children of a lesser God.”
Jesus’s quote about loving one’s enemies is one of the similarities between the teachings of the bible and a modern spiritual messenger, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”
