Mini Spoiler Alert
Yesterday, my husband Angelo and I enjoyed watching the movie Crazy Rich Asians at home (rented from library).
To my great surprise, I was deeply moved by the scene where the main female character and her boyfriend’s mother met to talk, and the female character empowered herself by confidently owning her self-worth. I wasn’t expecting a very soul-touching, heartfelt scene from a comedy movie, so it was a delightful surprise.
I also became very emotional towards the end of the movie, when the boyfriend character proposed to the main female character. I’ve seen many proposal scenes in movies and TV shows throughout my life, but none of them made me cry.
Though I initially shared with Angelo that my crying probably had to do with the topic of self-worth, shortly afterwards, I wondered if it was something else as well; and if so, what?
It then occurred to me that I was deeply touched by unconditional acceptance/embrace—something ALL aspects of our whole being yearns to experience, aka Unconditional Love for self (Ultimate Enlightenment)—which helps us to fully and truly embrace interconnected Life within this world, Solar System, Galaxy, Universe and beyond.
This unconditional acceptance/embrace was symbolized by the boyfriend handing the main character his mother’s green wedding, which I trust only happened because the main character had boldly chosen to unconditionally love herself first and foremost (to include self-respect). Reminder of our outer world mirroring our inner world.
I was also reminded of the importance of realizing one’s self-worth prior to tuning into monetary riches or wealth; otherwise, we could depend on material abundance to define who we are. And if all of it was suddenly lost one day (because anything’s possible), we would believe that we lost our worth, which is far from the truth.
A strong foundation within is absolutely essential, and that is the realization that our self-worth is our soul’s Divine birthright that no one can ever take away from us, unless we choose to give our inner-power away.
This movie was also a great reminder to not ever get lost within the material world—though our generous planet is meant to be our heaven on Earth—to include being unloving to self and interconnected others.
