2003-2006, duty station in Hawaii: One of Bobbie’s Soldiers, SPC Lapoop, was the funniest human being she had ever met. One day, she told him that he reminded her of Bill Murray (because he was so funny in various ways, to include his apathetic expressions), and he replied with a disgusted look, “So I’m ugly and old now?”
Having a conversation with SPC Lapoop was painful in itself; Bobbie’s stomach would hurt after uncontrollably laughing her ass off on many occasions.
One girl (female soldier) came up to him and said, “OH MY GOD…did you hear about the Olsen Twins?” He replied, “Why would I care about the Olsen Twins? It’s like a new MOS (military job)!”
Whenever Bobbie was pissed off at something, it was hard to stay mad around him because he always managed to make her smile or laugh.
It seemed like, no matter what was said, he had something witty to say about it…it was a gift from God, an amazing sense of humor.
One day, Bobbie was able to experience a serious side of Lapoop; he shared a personal story that probably made him doubt his talent.
His wife—a very petite, cute and lovable red head with somewhat slanted and gorgeous I think green eyes—snapped at him one day, “Not everything has to be a joke you know!”
Bobbie laughed to try and cheer up Lapoop (who often uplifted others with his humor), and asked him why he often used humor in his daily life.
He said that his dad was very funny, and often made him laugh, which helped Bobbie to better understand Lapoop. Looking back, he was lovingly giving back to others what was given to him by a Being who represents unconditional love.
Bobbie also had an opportunity to witness another side of SPC Lapoop—the compassionate side, which is within every human being, despite outer appearances.
SPC Lapoop and his wonderful wife invited Bobbie to their church one day. Although Bobbie no longer attended church for a while, she figured it wouldn’t hurt to join the wonderful couple.
While she sat there and listened to some inspirational music, she suddenly broke down sobbing uncontrollably. She tried to stop herself because she didn’t want to cry in public, but she realized that it came from deep down, so she just let herself Be. Both SPC Lapoop and his wife comforted her, and she was grateful for them.
