I recently noticed an increase of paper wasps entering our apartment; and today, right after I caught one and set it free outside, I heard another one buzzing at our living room window (though we recently had our screen replaced).
I was like, “C’MON! Again?! What’s really going on here guys?” I was then reminded from within what I shared below, and looked up the meaning of the wasp spirit guide since it’s been a while; and I’m grateful that I did, because I also came upon a website that drew me into its space due to an opportunity to introduce an expanded perspective.

The following is a reply post (minus the images) that I shared on the website Candle Power Forums, under the thread, “Anyone have real world experience with paper wasps?” (For the version with emoticons, click on the website/thread/link above; since I just posted it today, it will first go through a screening process by their staff before showing up):
Note: Image on left is the group of wasps and their nest in our patio that I talked about below. There are usually between 3-4 (once 5) present at a time; when there’s only three, we assume the others are gathering food, materials for their nest, or whatever. Also, for images below, credits shared at bottom of post
Hi ,
A very small group of paper wasps (between 4-5) built their nest on our patio gate several months ago, and my husband and I decided to let them be since I did some research and found out that these type of wasps are pretty much harmless (unless they feel their nest is threatened, and understandably, will go into attack mode in order to defend their babies ).
I trust that we’ve been able to co-exist with these intriguing creatures in
harmony, because we all maintain respectful, healthy boundaries (so far); meaning, we (humans) leave them alone and let them live their lives, and they leave us alone.
Whenever I do go out to the patio area, I telepathically greet them with a “Namaste” (whether they understand me or not, it’s about my intention).
On several occasions, while sweeping the patio ground, or even interacting with our soon-to-be adopted young, black, stray cat (whom I named Shadow), I forgot about the paper wasps, and ended up standing really close to their nest.
As soon as I realized this, I immediately backed off and was surprised (and grateful) that they didn’t sting me. I came to trust that they have built a trust that we have no intention to harm them as long as they don’t bother us as well.
Now some may laugh at the idea that tiny creatures like paper wasps can learn to trust; however, if you’ve ever seen the design of a paper wasp nest—with its intricate, hexagon patterns (part of Sacred Geometry)—you’ll realize that there exists a cosmically intelligent Spirit within ALL of Life (to include Mother Nature).
Also, the paper wasps don’t bother our cat Shadow, even though she sometimes basks in the sunlight right below their nest, which I find heart-warming.
Granted, a couple of times, when Shadow was under their nest area at the beginning, one out of the four wasps slowly flew around the vicinity of Shadow as though it was doing a recon of their home area.
The wasp then calmly flew back to the nest as if to report back to the Queen Wasp, “Ma’am, it’s all clear. I’ve sensed that the small black creature, like the two giants, is harmless.”
In addition, some other paper wasps—and not the group in our patio since there are always between 3-5 at a time there—enter our apartment every now and then, but we simply catch them by placing a cup over them, then gently scooting a booklet over the opening of the cup, and then setting them free outside.
Granted, if they don’t cooperate (i.e., spazzing out somewhere where we can’t catch them), we just let them be (as long as they don’t bother us), and they die naturally.
[Additional comment inserted later: I forgot to mention that when they do go towards the upper window area—where I can’t reach them—I sometimes leave a tiny sauce bowl of water for them to drink after they calm down; a couples of different times, I even left a tiny bowl of organic apple juice and grape juice in addition to the water, though I’ve never seen them drink either one.]
Lately, there’s been more of these other paper wasps flying into our apartment one by one, so I intuitively sensed that Spirit within had a message for me.
I trust that whenever any signs, symbols, people, things, situations, events, Divine synchronicity (to include number synchronicity like 11:11), other life forms, etc. REPEATEDLY (key word) show up in our lives, it’s like a rapidly blinking NEON sign that SHOUTS, “HEY YOU!LOOK OVER HERE!! I HAVE A MESSAGE FOR YOU FROM SPIRIT!!!” (since Spirit communicates to us in countless ways, to include dream state).
So, I was reminded to look up the meaning of the wasp animal totem, and sure enough, the uplifting, empowering, and inspiring message—mainly a reminder
to Be a warrior spirit—was perfect for me for this challenging phase in my life.
The more I learned to embrace other forms of life, I’ve noticed a pattern of various creatures showing up in my life in Divine perfect timing and order, whether in outer world or inner world (i.e., dream state), and they always have the perfect message for me to assist me with my individual and collective soul growth and spiritual evolution.

The following is a section from the post, “The Beauty of the So-called Unbeautiful,” and I trust that my relationship with the wasp spirit guide/totem within started at this point in my life:
While walking through the game room one day, I noticed a wasp on the carpet floor, which startled me at first. My initial reaction was to grab a fly swatter and kill it since they’re capable of stinging.
However, I believe my True Self whispered through my heart to Be Compassion. As I looked at the wasp close-up, it strangely appeared to have a human-like presence.
I couldn’t bring myself to kill it. I managed to put a container over the wasp, and then released it outside.
That week, as I stepped outside, I saw a wasp flying near our doorstep. I instantly felt that it was the same one I had crossed paths with, although my logical side of my mind tried to convince me that it could’ve been any other wasp.

(I can definitely relate to the writer’s questions, and I now fully trust that no matter what we do—and regardless of how seemingly tiny and insignificant our thoughts, intentions, feelings, behavior, words, and actions, may seem to us in our logical minds and physical eyes at times—we must remember that as long as these ways of Being stem from pure, Unconditional Love, the immensely powerful impact they make from their small ripples to ginormous TSUNAMI WAVES will, without a shadow of doubt, be everlasting. I live in an old farmhouse and we get dozens of wasps nests in the attic and in the outbuildings every year. We have estimated there must be several thousand wasps under our roof at any one time. I sometimes go up into the attic to look at their nests and can stand very close and even point at them with my finger and they never show any aggressivity. I talk to them and tell them I am their friend and this is my house and they are welcome to live here. I also tell them what I’m doing and where I’ve been. I don’t know if they understand but in some way I think they do. Occasionally some lone wasp finds its way into the house and like you, I catch it in a cup and bring it oiutside. But this is pretty rare. Actually we don’t see many wasps at all really in the house ot in the garden. Even when we sit outside and eat marmalade and other yummy wasp stuff they won’t bother us. So I guess they leave us alone and go elsewhere to forage.
